The number reportedly reached American collections as seed labeled with it, bought from a Spanish botanical garden by a New Mexico grower; about eight seedlings — what Seedling means were raised, and cuttings — what Cutting means came from the last one or two that grower kept back as stock; the plants from that lot are strongly suspected not to be pure scopulicola but a cross — what Cross means made at the Spanish garden, based on spines longer than on Australian and Continental material.

Reportedly very little Bolivian scopulicola seed ever left the country, so most of what circulates was raised in Germany; the original FR991 plants are likely to have died in a hard winter, and Noll obtained seed from Joachim Podschadel before that collection was lost.
