Ask for something to be taken down

Some of what is on this site was sent in by other people — words, corrections, things about a cultivar. If something here is yours and should not be published, or it is about you and should not be here, this is the way to say so. No account, no sign-in, and it goes to a person rather than into a form nobody reads.

Nothing is taken down automatically. Every request is read by one person, who decides and then tells you what was done. That cuts both ways: a request cannot make a page disappear on its own, and a request cannot be quietly dropped either — it is stored the moment it arrives, and it is never deleted.

What happens to a request

  1. Step 1

    You send it

    The form below, with no account and no sign-in. Tell me which page the material is on, what it is, and why it should not be there. You get a reference straight away and a private link that shows you where your request has got to.

  2. Step 2

    It goes in a queue nobody can empty by accident

    Every request is stored the moment it arrives, exactly as you wrote it, and it is never deleted or edited. Nothing is screened out, nothing is auto-refused, and no page on this site is ever taken down automatically — a person reads it and decides. That cuts both ways: a wrongful complaint cannot make a page vanish on its own either.

  3. Step 3

    I read it and act

    This is one grower, not a department, so give it a few days. If the material is on this site and the complaint stands, it comes down. If it is not mine to take down, or the complaint is one I do not agree with, you get told that and why — not silence.

  4. Step 4

    You can check without asking anyone

    The link you were given shows the current state, what was done, and the answer written for you to read. If you have lost the link, the reference on its own is not enough to open it — that is on purpose, so nobody else can read your request. Message me on the contact page and I will send it again.

There is no registered agent yet — read this first

US law gives a website that hosts other people's material protection from liability for it, on condition that the site registers a designated agent with the Copyright Office. Mysterious Yard has not done that yet. It means this store cannot claim that protection today — it does not mean a notice sent here is ignored. Requests go to a real person, are read, and are acted on. If you need to serve a formal notice on a registered agent, there is not one to serve, and you should say so in your request so it is treated as urgent.

What to put in it

The form asks for all of this. It is written out here so you can see what is coming before you start.

  • The address of the page on this site where the material appears — the whole link, and one line per page if there is more than one.
  • What the material is: which photograph, which paragraph, which name. “Something on your site” cannot be found.
  • Where the original is, if there is somewhere to point at — your own post, your own page, the licence it was published under.
  • Who you are and an email address that reaches you, so there is somebody to answer.
  • Whether the rights are yours or you are acting for whoever holds them.

What this route is and is not

This is not a route for editing the site
It is for material that should not be published at all — your work, your mark, or your personal information. Something that is simply wrong is a correction, and the contribute page is the door for that. A disagreement about a plant's identity is neither: those are argued in the open on the entry itself.
A knowingly false complaint has a cost
Asking for someone else's material to be removed when you have no right to is not a free move — under US copyright law a person who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing can be liable for the damages that causes. The two statements you sign are the ones that carry that weight. This is not a threat, it is what you are signing.
Photographs sent in by visitors are already never published
Every photograph on this site was taken in this yard. Pictures sent through the contribute page are kept as a private reference for one person to look at and are never put on a page — so if you are writing about a photograph of yours, it is worth checking the page first. If one is published, this is exactly the route for it and it will come down.
What happens to what you send
Your request is stored with your name and email so there is somebody to answer, and it is kept as the record of what was asked and what was done. It is not published, not passed to anyone else, and not used for anything else. Your IP address is not stored — only a one-way hash of it, the same as every other form on this site.

I wrote this page myself, for a one-person nursery, in plain English — a lawyer did not write it, and where a term here is one California law does not let a seller change, the law wins. Ask me anything about it before you order rather than after.
