China Gold is reportedly a mass-produced variegated from China, kept for the gold sectors in its green . It is reportedly painfully slow on its own roots, with taking as long as twenty months to root, so most people graft it.

The longer version
Plants started showing up in collector circles outside China from about 2023, and possibly earlier, once growers began importing them.
An American nursery that sells it says it originates in Asia, where it is propagated and distributed, and that its larger plants keep shorter spines.
