Growth habit
Reportedly, crested growth looks brain-like and can start at the base or at the tip. Every crest grows differently, so no two plants match.
Straight down into a crowded clump of short heads, each one folded into rounded lobes rather than straight ribs, with dark soil and pieces of brick showing in the gaps.
