Lineage
Growers call it a plant's parents, and their parents. Only crosses have one: a named clone is a cutting line, so it has an origin rather than a pedigree, and plenty of well-known names have no recorded parents at all, growers say. Where nobody wrote the cross down, the lineage is simply unknown, and a guess that looks tidy is not a record.
