House Spirit is an variegate — white tissue against green, rather than the more common yellow — isolated from a Bonny x Huarazensis seedling by a Reddit grower working under the handle MycoloJean. The seedling itself came from Tom Suazo. The grower is selecting two directions from it, a pure albino form and a marbled one, and the name comes from a Celtic tradition of honouring the household spirit.Reported, but not confirmed.

The variegation is albino, white against green, rather than the yellow-and-green pattern more usual in the hobby.One source states this, and our house botanist has checked it. Both white and yellow variegation occur in cactus; an albino white-on-green pattern is plausible.The wiki page notes the plant has never been grown in sun.Too little stands behind this for us to confirm it.

What the sources say

Huarazensis is a grower's label taken from Huaraz in Peru, not a published botanical name — no cactus name in any genus uses that , and the only plant name that does is a bromeliad. That is part of why the spelling never settled.Reported by one source, and not corroborated anywhere else.
