Max-01 is reportedly recognized by the bumps under its : each one carries a long notch that arcs the whole way down, giving the ribs a strange, almost profile. It was reportedly rescued from a Los Angeles collector's garden after the was bulldozed, and it spread through friends rather than through a commercial release. It reportedly thickens up well and grows longer spines in full sun, and it grafts readily. No species has reportedly been assigned to it.
