How to read the wall

How to read the wall

Every plant draws its own mark

  • a plain ring: no mark
  • 7 ribs, short spines
  • monstrose
  • crested

The ring is the plant seen from above; each mark on it is a trait a grower wrote down. Every seal wears its species family’s color, and the family and the name are written out under every seal.

Grow one of the plants on this wall and know how it looks? Tell me. Everything is checked before it goes up.

How a seal is made →

Seven families, seven silhouettes

The drawings are the real differences: rounded ribs and a notched brow on a pachanoi, deep notches and frosted blue skin on a peruvianus, long needles on a slim bridgesii, a smooth near-spineless scopulicola, one flank from each parent on a cross. The dashed outline is the one chip that is not a family: it holds the few names that are not a known Trichocereus.

Every photograph in the yard pages and the shop is of a plant grown here, except where a listing says it was grown by somebody else — it says so on the listing, above the price.
